Lenovo's Legion Phone Duel 2 - First Impression Review

Phone / Tablet

Lenovo has announced its new flagship gaming phone earlier, the Legion Phone Duel 2, packed with a host of features meant to focus and improve the gaming experience. Before we dive into the highlights it has to offer, here's a brief of its specification.

Front pop-up camera & Gaming Display

Enhanced 44MP front pop-up camera - Positioned at the smartphone's side frame is a 44MP pop-up selfie with an ultra-wide 84-degree autofocus lens camera, designed for gamers' convenience to live stream during gameplay. Additionally, the artificial intelligence (AI) enhanced feature allows streamers to tap into real-time overlays and effects and even use virtual avatars with background removal.

144Hz AMOLED Gaming Display - The Legion Phone Duel 2 features a large 6.92-inch AMOLED HDR gaming display with 800 nits outdoor-readable brightness and up to 1300 nits peak, which is excellent under any lighting condition. With an AI-powered Pixelworks(TM) i6 Processor, it offers a premium visual experience with ultra-vivid imagery, richer colors, and sharper detail visual for immersive gaming and multimedia experience. It also has a 144Hz high refresh rate and a 720Hz touch sampling rate that improves the overall gaming experience. However, such high touch sampling rate would probably be only evident in specific intensive gameplay.

Design and Performance

Flagship Snapdragon 888 (5G) - Built with the latest flagship Snapgradon 888 5G mobile and paired with Adreno 660 GPU, the Legion Phone Duel 2 has a 35% performance boost over its predecessor. It is available in three RAM options (12GB, 16GB, 18GB), and two storage options ( 256GB, 512GB).

Dual Cooling Fan & Large Passive cooling vapor chamber - Within is an integrated, active, Twin Turbo-Fan cooling system that dissipates heat and keeps the device cool, and a featured vapor chamber with liquid cooling for passive cooling. Thoughtfully designed, the CPU is placed in the middle of the smartphone, away from the hand-held position of the user when gaming.

Intuitive Octa-Trigger Controls - Unlike its predecessor, the new Legion Duel 2 has an Octa-Trigger instead, including four ultrasonic shoulder keys granting a total of eight virtual buttons arranged similar to a gaming console's controller. Gamers are then allowed to bind more weapons and tools accordingly to their preference. Along with the Dual Haptix feedback, the smartphone allows the gamer to have a full console controller-like experience, enhancing the gaming experience.

Large Battery Capacity

Packed with a large 5,500 mAh battery capacity, the Legion Duel 2 is 10% larger than its predecessor and can support 90W fast charging and dual USB Type-C charge. According to Lenovo, this speeds up the charging time, giving it a full charge in just 30 minutes, which should last "up to 8 hours" of "intermittent gameplay." Thoughtfully designed, the large 5,500 mAh battery is split evenly into two 2750mAh battery sizes and positioned on either side of the central processing hardware, spreading the weight evenly for the user.
